CIS London & Partners is pleased to announce that we are teaming up with BPP University to offer senior legal managers based in or focused at Russia & the CIS the unique opportunity to study MBA (Legal Services).

The MBA Legal Services programme will be delivered by BPP University, who exclusively trains over 45 leading UK and global law firms’ trainees and delivers programmes to leading companies in the UK.

And as well as improving their knowledge of business and management, a much sought-after training scheme at CIS London & Partners will be offered to top 10 performers.

Practical & legal aspects of investments in IT start-ups

We run a seminar in Moscow for IT businesses and business incubators and accelerators. We have covered the legal aspects of investments in IT start-ups and our guest speaker Maria Liberman covered the practical and commercial issues.

Getting the deal through Copyright 2015

We have once again contributed to Getting the Deal Through series of annual reports on Copyright 2015 volume that was published in July 2015.

The chapter Copyright: Russia prepared by our experts Valeria Ivasikh and Alexander Yurchik addresses the key issues that are of concern to rights holders and their counsel, covering such areas as: legislation and enforcement, agencies, subject matter and scope of copyright, copyright formalities, ownership and copyright, duration of copyright, copyright infringements and remedies and relationship to international copyright conventions.

HNWI Russian Clients: CFC rules - practical approach, Luxembourg

Svetlana London presented on the CFC rules at the conference held in Luxembourg for private bankers, tax lawyers, compliance officers, fiduciaries, life insurers, independent wealth managers and trust specialists. Svetlana briefly described recent trends and discussed the practical issues. She also acted as the moderator for the conference.

The Russian legislation on personal data protection is currently changing

The amendments to the law on personal data are coming into force from 01 September 2015, one year earlier than expected. It imposes heavy requirements on Russian and foreign companies working with personal data. CIS London team has prepared a short briefing note on the main changes that can be downloaded here.

Webinar on Russian sanctions

Svetlana London took part in a web conference that was organised by Cordery. The webinar covered the scope of sanctions imposed by the EU on Russia. Svetlana gave the Russian perspective on the sanctions and also provided the participants with a brief overview of the Russian sanctions against other countries.

Svetlana London presented at the Anti-Corruption Statutes Panel organised by the New York State Bar Association at the International section’s seasonal meeting "Rebuilding the Transatlantic Marketplace: Austria and Central Europe as Catalysts for Entrepreneurship and Innovation".

Svetlana London gave a talk on QLTS examination within the “Introduction to legal services in the UK” program that the Law Society of England and Wales organised and held for the delegation of Russian lawyers. Svetlana has shared her experience of becoming an English solicitor via the QLTS route.

We are pleased to announce that we have re-branded from MGAP UK and going forward we will be known as CIS London and Partners LLP.

Driven by a growth in business, and client requirements, the firm over the past few years has been working with a broader range of legal experts across Russia, Kazakhstan and other CIS jurisdictions.

The re-brand gives us increased flexibility, in addition to our Moscow base, to further expand our network of hand-picked lawyers across the region. Workshop “Shareholders Agreement and Caveat Emptor principle”, London, UK

On 9 July 2014 we ran a workshop for lawyers from Ukraine and Azerbaijan on practical aspects of shareholders agreements and specifics of the dispute resolution in the UK.

Our managing partner Svetlana London and senior associate Elena Ivanova covered particular areas and discussed challenges that lawyers from the CIS may encounter while working on cross-border transactions governed by English law. We have shared our practical experience of working with English lawyers on various issues including provision of experts reports to English courts and use of due diligence findings while preparing transactional documents.

Siberian TV Production Location assistance

We have assisted a UK TV production company on filming of a documentary movie in Siberia, Russia. We have advised the client on a number of contractual, corporate, tax, migration, IP and regulatory issues including the obtaining of filming and forest related permits.
